Ernest D.Martin wurde am 13. April 1921 in Hugo/Oklahoma (USA) als Sohn eines Apothekers geboren.

1950 schloß er sein Studium an der pharmazeutischen Fakultät der Universität Oklahoma mit einem Doktor der Pharmazie ab. 1976 erhielt Ernest Martin eine öffentliche Anerkennung für außerordentliche Verdienste im Bereich der pharmazeutischen Versorgung durch A.H.Robins. eine solche Auszeichnung wird in jedem Staat der USA jeweils nur an eine Person vergeben.

Ernest D. Martin erwarb sich nicht nur in der Pharmazie Verdienste, sondern auch in der Politik. Als Mitglied der Demokratischen Partei war er von 1964 bis 1982 Mitglied des Senates des Staates Oklahoma. In dieser Eigenschaft sorgte er für Straßenbau, öffentliche technische und schulische Einrichtungen sowie verbesserte Infrastrukturen für Bereiche der Polizei und Armee, was nebenher für zahlreiche Arbeitsplätze sorgte. Außerdem war er 16 Jahre lang der Vorsitzende des Senatsausschusses für das Gesundheitswesen, war mehrere Jahre lang Fraktionsführer seiner regierenden Partei im Senat, und schaffte es noch kurz vor seiner Pensionierung, daß die Universität Oklahoma einige Millionen freigegeben bekam für den Bau eines neuen Pharmaziegebäudes im Gesundheits- und Wissenschaftsbereich.

Schon als Kind hatte Ernest D. Martin den Drang zu malen verspürt. Das ging soweit, daß seine Mutter zum sonntäglichen Kirchenbesuch manchmal Stift und Zeichenblock mitnehmen mußte. Während seiner gesamten Karriere als Pharmazeut und Senator fuhr er fort, seine Kunst zu vervollkommnen. Selbst in seinem Büro im Capitol oder auf den Fluren des Senatsgebäuden skizzierte er Menschen und Szenen. Nun, da er sich aus der Politik zurückgezogen hat, können wir sicher sein, daß neben seiner Familie auch seine Kunst nicht zu kurz kommen wird.

Ernest D. Martin was born on April 13, 1921 at Hugo, Oklahoma, as the son of a pharmacist.

He graduated in 1950 from the Oklahoma University College of Pharmacy with a doctorate in pharmacy. 1976 Ernest D.Martin was recognized in 1976 for Outstanding Community Service in Pharmacy" by A. H. Robins, a distinction given to one person in each of the 50 states.

Ernest D. Martin served the public not only with pharmacy but also with politics. As a registered democrat he became State Senator of Oklahoma from 1964-1982. In this position he helped bring to Ardmore the Interstate 35, The southern Oklahoma Vo-Tech Center. The Ardmore Higher Education Center. Highway Patrol Headquarters Troop F. and The National Guard Armory, as well as countless jobs for people. Besides he served as a chairman of the senate Public and Mental Health Committee for 16 years. Also he served as Majority leader of the state senate for several years and was responsible for acquiring several million US dollars to make it possible to build a new Pharmacy building at the Health Science Center at Oklahoma University shortly before he retired from the senate.

Even as a boy Ernest D. Martin felt a compulsion to draw, to the extend that his mother sometimes took a pencil and a writing tablet with her when the family went to church. During his cereer as a pharmacist and as a State Senator he always continued to improve his art. Even at his office at the capitol or on floor of the senate he made sketches of people and scenes. As he is retired now from Senate, we can expect him to concentrate on family and art alike.
