Eliahou  Eric  Bokobza

1963

Eliahou  Eric  Bokobza wurde 1963 in Frankreich in Paris geboren. Seine Eltern waren tunesischer Herkunft. Als Eric sechs Jahre alt war, emigrierte die Familie nach Israel. Bokobza graduierte an der Pharmazeutischen Fakultät der Hebrew University, Jslm. Er arbeitet heute als Vollzeit- Apotheker in seiner eigenen Apotheke in Tel Aviv.

Neben der Pharmazie hat die Kunst immer einen hohen Stellenwert in seinem Leben gehabt. Mit vier oder fünf Jahren begann er zu malen. Motive aus seiner Kindheit (Esel, Hühner, Hähne, Häuser, Clowns) tauchen auch in seinen reifen Werken wieder auf. Andere Quellen sind Familienfotos, orientalische und lokale Symbole und mediterrane Malerei. Seine stark ironische Seite zeigt sich in einem nur scheinbar naiven Malstil einer fast klischeehaften Umgebung. Bokobza möchte den “neuen” Juden zeigen. Das ist für ihn nicht der gut integrierte Zionist. Er zeigt statt dessen Personen, die zwischen den Welten gefangen sind; Kulturen und Ideologien, die nicht auf einen Nenner zu bringen sind. Oft benutzt er als Symbol ein Kind, das in einer Welt israelischer Kulturprägung steht, in die es offensichtlich nicht passt. Das Kind wirkt eher wie ein Tourist in einem fremden Land.

Bokobza sieht seine Heimat mit den Augen eines Fremden, eines Europäers, der den Orient bestaunt. Er benutzt starke, vibrierende Farben und bevorzugt die klassische Ölmalerei.

Bokobza hat eine ausgezeichnete Kunstausbildung genossen. Er graduierte an der Pollack-Kalisher Kunsthochschule in Tel Aviv. In nationalen und internationalen Ausstellungen zeigt er sich als Künstler mit unverwechselbarer eigener Prägung.

Eliahou  Eric  Bokobza was born in Paris (France) 1963. His parents were of tunisian origin. When Eric was six the family immigrated to Israel. Bokobza graduatet at the School of Pharmacy, Hebrew University, Jslm. Today he works full-time in his own pharmacy in Tel Aviv.

Besides pharmacy art held always a stong point in his life. He started drawing with four or five years. Motives from his childhood paintings (donkey, chicken, house, rooster and clown ) still appear in his mature paintings. Other sources are family photographs, oriental and local symbols and mediterranean paintings. His work contains heavy irony in a sometimes seemingly naive style with a setting in "desert cliche". Bokobza tries to show the "New Jewish", but it is not the well integrated Zionist he thematises. Instead he shows a kind of displaced persons between worlds, a clash of cultures and ideologies, often identified by a child standing in a world of israeli culture to which it obviously doesn´t really belong. The child is like a tourist visiting a foreign country.

Bokobza sees his own country with foreign eyes, a European looking at the Orient. He uses strong, vibrant colors and prefers the classical oil technique.

Bokobza had a solid education in arts. He graduate of the Pollack-Kalisher school of art, Tel-Aviv. National and international exhibitions show an artist who has found an unique voice.
